Lesson 1
Quantitative and qualitative data
The team draws quantitative and qualitative data from multiple sources inside the school, and must verify its credibility in order to derive truthful evidence indicating that the standards have been met. Credibility is not an attribute granted at the outset; it is the outcome of a check the team carries out.
- Quantitative data is measured: counts, percentages, scores, frequencies
- Qualitative data is described: observations, quotations, documents, sightings
- Distinguishing opinion from fact is a competence without which qualitative data gathering does not hold
