Lesson 1

School evaluation: where self-evaluation sits inside it

School evaluation as the Procedural Guide for School Self-Evaluation in General Education (third edition, 1447H – 2026, p. 6) states it: A systematic, continuous process of gathering data on a school's performance using varied evaluation methods and tools; to analyse it, determine the quality of its performance against previously defined standards and criteria, and offer proposals for improvement and development. It has two phases: self-evaluation, then external evaluation.

  • Self-evaluation comes before external evaluation and prepares for it — it is neither a substitute nor a miniature of it
  • The school evaluates itself, but against the Commission's approved standards and instruments, not ones it invents
  • Performance is judged against criteria fixed in advance, not against an impression formed along the way
  • The output is proposals for improvement and development, not a grade to display, nor a regulatory verdict
